A WCAG Accessible HTML Website for Welcome Bridge, a Surrey Charity Supporting Refugees and Newcomers
Year: 2026
https://welcome-bridge.org.uk
Welcome Bridge is a Surrey charity helping refugees and newcomers settle in the UK through free English classes, advice appointments, employment support, and community drop-ins. Cude Design built a fast, fully accessible HTML website to demonstrate what a properly built WCAG-compliant charity website looks like in practice, with a clean design that serves a diverse audience across all devices and connection speeds.
Donation Integration and Performance
Built as a static HTML site rather than WordPress, the site delivers exceptional loading speeds with no database overhead and no plugin conflicts. Donation functionality is integrated directly into the get involved page, making it straightforward for supporters to contribute financially. The lightweight architecture ensures the site remains fast and reliable regardless of traffic volume, which matters for a charity whose audience may be accessing it on mobile devices with limited connections.
What We Said
A Fast, Accessible Charity Website That Puts Users First
WCAG Accessibility
Built to WCAG 2.1 AA standards throughout. Keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, sufficient colour contrast, proper heading hierarchy, image alt text, and ARIA labels are all implemented from the ground up rather than retrofitted. The site includes a full accessibility statement and was built to demonstrate what genuine WCAG compliance looks like in practice for a charity audience.
Static HTML for Speed
Built as a static HTML site rather than a WordPress installation, the Welcome Bridge website loads faster than the vast majority of charity websites. No database queries, no plugin overhead, no unnecessary JavaScript. The result is a site that performs well on slow mobile connections, which is particularly important for an organisation whose users may be accessing the web in challenging circumstances.
Donation Integration
Donation functionality integrated directly into the site, making it easy for supporters to give online. The donation journey is clear, accessible, and friction-free, reflecting the same commitment to usability that runs through every aspect of the build.
